1. This week we are starting a new song.  Every composition, popular or classical should always be analyzed as to the scale and structure. Page 15 analyzes the left hand chords and describes how the harmony has been arranged.  Understanding the foundations of composition allow faster learning, memorizing and interpretation.  We will study more on this in the study of cadences and the use of certain chords for interpreting music.

HINT FOR FUTURE LESSONS: Notice how I have used decending patterns
in the left hand, C to B to A.  Yes, I have arranged the chords on purpose
for this pattern, and we will study more on this later.

 2.  Page 15 practicing the left hand:  Practice only 2 or three staffs a day until you have practiced the complete page.   Practice each staff several times until you have mastered the left hand and it becomes easy and can be played in the correct rhythm.  Always make sure you are using the proper fingering.
 3.  Page 16 is the beginning of practicing hands together.  Again, practice one measure at a time and do not move to the next until that measure is mastered.

  4.  Page 18 is the completed song. Use this page to only practice the right hand.    Next week you will get the remainder of the song to practice.  Once you have the complete song.  Take your time practicing, do not rush and you will learn to play each new song without mistakes. It takes longer to correct mistakes than to  practice slowly and not make mistakes when beginning a new song.

I have played the song so you can hear what it sounds like.

 5.  You should be practicing your scales at every practice session.  This should be the first thing you do when you sit down.  Warm up with scales, do your exercises, then move on to your new lessons.  I suggest 1 day work on C Scale and the next day work on G Scale.  Next week we will add D Scale.
